We spent yesterday morning in Portsmouth, where we explored the old dockyard. Ben enjoyed seeing the old ships, and the kids had a great time trying all of the hands-on activities.
From there, we drove through New Forest on the way back up to Salisbury. Between cute towns (Downton! Although not where the show was filmed.) and horses wandering free on the roads, it was a beautiful drive.
In Salisbury, the Ermine Street Guard was holding a Roman reenactment at Old Sarum. We got to learn about the Roman soldiers who invaded Southern England, and the kids even got the chance to pull chariots!
And Old Sarum itself is nothing to sneeze at.
We may have left Rome, but we haven’t left the Romans behind.
